Dana Oswald, APRN, is an extraordinary nurse practitioner who moved from Ohio to rural Alaska three years ago. Dana is one of the most compassionate nurses I have met and genuinely cares about each of her patients. She works diligently to provide them with education, encouragement and hope.
She has a unique way of connecting with our patients; her concern for them is tangible. She meets with each patient to discuss their treatment plan with them. She thoroughly explains the medication, side effects and outcome expectations. She is compassionately honest and does not give patients false hope but assures them that our team will assist them through the process.
Dana has a bubbly personality that spills over to both staff and patients. Working in oncology can be challenging. Dana empathizes with her patients and strives to provide physical and emotional relief to them. She brings a light to the darkness that often lingers like a dark cloud when patients are not doing well. She joyously celebrates with them when they are doing well and beams with pride when they finish treatment.
Dana goes above and beyond her job duties. She is an avid supporter of fundraisers for people with cancer. You will find her creating multiple baskets for silent auction donations each year for a nonprofit in our community that provides financial assistance to people diagnosed with cancer. She diligently collects items for women who attend Casting for Recovery, a nonprofit that offers free fly fishing and wellness retreats for patients with breast cancer. She spent several hours helping at our Survivor's Well-Being Fair on her day off. Dana's love language is giving, and she gives well.
It's truly an honor to work with Dana. Dana is generous, humble, intelligent and unforgettable. Our practice is enriched by having her here to advocate for our patients.
