When facing ovarian cancer, it is critical to stay healthy and well-informed, says Anya Khomenko.

After being diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer, and then facing a recurrence after five years in remission, Khomenko is no stranger to what life is like with ovarian cancer. However, there are steps that can be taken to improve life with an illness.

In fact, she takes on the role of being her own advocate by staying up-to-date on research, breakthroughs and clinical trials. She also feels that complementary therapy — from diet and exercise to natural supplements – can also play a role in the cancer treatment process. While these tactics may not necessarily cure the cancer, they can make the patient feel better throughout.
