Cure Media Group and Ihadcancer.Com Partner to Advance Cancer Education and Support Patients

Patient-focused media group and leading Web-based cancer support organization join forces to help those affected by cancer.

PLAINSBORO, N.J. (November 18, 2015) — CURE Media Group, the nation’s leading digital and print media enterprise focused on cancer patients, welcomes IHadCancer.com to the CURE Advocacy Spotlight Partnership program.

“Being diagnosed with cancer is isolating and scary,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, part of the Plainsboro, N.J.-based Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., family of businesses. “IHadCancer.com helps anyone who has been affected by cancer find real support and real answers in an online community sharing stories, inspiration and connection with others with cancer. Through CURE® magazine, the largest consumer publication in the U.S. focused entirely on cancer, and our other communications services, we are proud to partner with IHadCancer.com to help patients find the support and the answers they desperately seek.”

“IHadCancer.com’s mission is to empower anyone who has been affected by cancer,” said Mailet Lopez, cancer survivor and founder of IHadCancer.com. “Whether you are a fighter, survivor or supporter/caregiver, you can find what you need from people who have been through a similar experience.”

Mailet Lopez was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 at the age of 33. Although she had great support from her family, she found that they couldn’t fully understand what she was going through. She spent a lot of time searching online, but she couldn’t find a resource that easily connected her with someone who could answer specific questions. After finishing treatment, Mailet decided that she wanted to help other patients deal with cancer, so she set out to build an online community that would allow people to search by age, gender, location, type of cancer and year diagnosed to find others who truly understood.

Today, the entire IHadCancer.com community is more than 200,000 people strong and has members in more than 110 countries. In both 2013 and 2015, it was recognized by the Webby Awards as the “Best Community Website." In 2013, Parade magazine listed IHadCancer.com as one of seven social networks that could save your life. But more importantly, IHadCancer.com has made a difference in the lives of thousands of people affected by cancer.

“The goal of the site is to prevent or undo the feeling of isolation that is often experienced by those affected by cancer,” said Mailet.
