Dr. Jinsil Seong, Professor at Yonsei University Medical College, is honored for her ground-breaking work in primary liver cancer.

Blue Faery: The Adrienne Wilson Liver Cancer Association is proud to announce the annual Blue Faery Award (BFA) for Excellence in Liver Cancer Research. Primary liver cancer, also known as Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), is the second leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Blue Faery created the award to recognize medical professionals who develop innovative research in HCC.

Upon receiving the BFA Dr. Jinsil Seong stated, "I am truly honored and impressed to join world leaders in [the] HCC field who won the award previously. This encourages me to keep going forward for [a] better future of our HCC patients!"

Professor Seong is one of a few who pioneered radiotherapy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma. She has devoted her entire career on radiotherapy of HCC by practicing, educating and pursuing clinical research. With her enthusiasm and devotion overcoming a minority issue not only in specialty (radiation oncology) but also in gender (women), she has served as a president of the Korean Liver Cancer Association. Additionally, she is the president-elect of the Asia Pacific Primary Liver cancer Expert (APPLE) association, which is a world leading liver cancer association.

President Andrea Wilson said, "We are thrilled to give the BFA to Dr. Seong. Not only is she our first international recipient, but she is also the first woman and first radiation oncologist to win the BFA. She is changing the landscape for HCC patients and providers." Andrea started Blue Faery in honor of her sister Adrienne, who died of HCC at the age of 15. Blue Faery announces the winner on April 8 —– Adrienne's birthday. She would have been 33 years old this year.

Founded in 2002, the mission of Blue Faery is to prevent, treat and cure primary liver cancer through research, education and advocacy. Blue Faery's HCC patient education brochure is free for patients, their families and their healthcare providers. To serve the needs of HCC patients worldwide, Blue Faery's website translates into 10 languages including Chinese, Hindi, Korean and Spanish. Blue Faery hosts an online Liver Cancer Community for patients and caregivers.
