Young adult cancer survivors dealing with psychological factors, such as emotional stress, may gain coping skills through creative writing workshops.
Lacuna Loft, a nonprofit organization that encourages, empowers and connects young adult survivors of cancer and their caregivers worldwide, held three eight- to 10-week workshops via an online video chat platform. Each week a different cancer topic was introduced. Participants included 21 survivors from nine states and three countries.
The participants reported feeling less isolated at the completion of a workshop and more connected to other young adult cancer survivors. They all said they would recommend the workshop to others.
The authors concluded that writing workshops may be an effective psychosocial intervention for young adult survivors to explore their cancer experience.
