Through journaling and connecting with my faith, I was able to embrace everything I was thinking and feeling during colon cancer.

Have you ever stopped and thought about what your life would be like if an unexpected event changed your life forever? At the age of 34, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, which was extremely shocking information to hear. I was already on stage 2 when my doctor confirmed it after my colonoscopy. I was very fortunate that my cancer was detected on time due to being slim.

During that time, I had an uncomfortable pain in my lower right side of my stomach, which lasted three days. To make matters worse, my stomach was swollen. This led to going to the emergency room, where I received the biggest news of my life.

In this blog, I would like to share a part of my voyage that provided me peace, harmony and tranquility. After my diagnosis, I learned to self-heal. My spiritual journey grew because of it. By praying and interacting with God, it allowed me to practice my faith. Growing up, I was never the type of person to go to church every Sunday. However, I always had my own special relationship with my Father in heaven, which was very sacred to me.

As you know, journaling has been a huge component in expressing and coping with my challenges after my diagnosis with colon cancer. In April 2020, a month and a half later, I began to journal in my notebook. This consisted of writing to God, as it was my way to embrace everything that I was thinking and feeling. There were moments where I would shed tears because I was afraid of what was going to happen to me, especially when I started chemotherapy.

I would love to share my first prayer with you, hoping that it will bring you peace the way it did for me. It goes something like this:

Dear God,

I want to take this opportunity to say how grateful and happy I am to be alive. I know that in the past, I have taken this for granted, but just be aware that waking up every day is a blessing. Thank you for allowing me to wake up every morning in order to live my life to the fullest.

I am so thankful that I can spend more time with my family and create special memories with them. My family means the world to me, and seeing them is definitely worth smiling about. I will do my best to cherish every moment I am on this Earth to make the lives of those around me better.

Thank you for all of my blessings and for everything I have at this moment in my life. Thank you for saving me. I want you to know that I do not take it for granted and value my second chance in life. Please guide me through this journey because I want to continue to help and advocate for as many people as I can with the sole purpose of impacting their lives in a positive way.

May today bring me an abundance of success, love, prosperity, happiness, but above all else, perfect health. Thank you, God, for giving this to me now. Forever blessed!!!

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Indeed, my spiritual journey gave me the inner strength that I needed in order to keep moving forward. I hope and pray that whatever difficulties you are going through, God will stand by your side to help you overcome them. Always remember that you are not alone, and everything you need is already within you. You have the heart of an eagle. Fly high and be fearless.
