Martina McBride debuts cancer-themed music video

Author(s):

I know some of our readers are Martina McBride fans after a few of you submitted her songs for inclusion on our cancer playlist. While McBride has had many inspirational songs throughout her career, she's now bringing hope and inspiration to those touched by cancer. The lyrics to her new song, "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" are about a couple standing by each other as the wife handles her treatment and diagnosis. The song was inspired by one of the songwriter's mothers who had breast cancer. McBride sings in the chorus, "Just take my hand, together we can do it/ I'm gonna love you through it."What I found particularly moving about the song and the video is that it truly is for anyone touched by cancer--those who face the disease and those who support them--and the love they share. To make the video, McBride enlisted dozens of survivors to participate, including familiar faces Sheryl Crow, Today anchor Hoda Kotb, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, who all had breast cancer, and Katie Couric, who cared for her husband before he died from colon cancer and her sister who died from pancreatic cancer. The video is touching and personal, and you can catch Robin Roberts' reaction to participating in the video and seeing the final product.McBride isn't the first artist to cover cancer in song. Just a few examples, Melissa Etheridge has written lyrics about her own cancer treatment, most famously in "I Run For Life," and Jason Mraz penned "The Remedy" after being inspired by his best friend's cancer journey.What do you think of Martina McBride's new song? What songs have been the most inspirational or meant the most to you?
