CURE Media Group Adds Prostate Cancer Foundation and Women Against Prostate Cancer to Advocacy Spotlight Partnership Program

CURE Media Group, the nation's leading digital and print media enterprise focused on cancer patients, today announced that two leading advocacy groups in the battle against prostate cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and Women Against Prostate Cancer (WAPC), have joined CURE's Advocacy Spotlight Partnership program to battle a disease affecting one in seven men -- and projected to kill more than 27,500 this year.

Plainsboro, NJ (PRWEB) September 29, 2015 -- CURE Media Group, the nation’s leading digital and print media enterprise focused on cancer patients, today announced that two leading advocacy groups in the battle against prostate cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and Women Against Prostate Cancer (WAPC), have joined CURE’s Advocacy Spotlight Partnership program to battle a disease affecting one in seven men—and projected to kill more than 27,500 this year.

“We know prostate cancer affects nearly 3 million men—and their families—in the U.S. We are proud to join forces with these two leading advocacy groups to raise awareness about effective treatments and the importance of early detection,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of Intellisphere Oncology and Healthcare Specialty Group, part of the Plainsboro, N.J.-based Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., family of businesses.

“Prostate cancer affects so many lives today. Our new partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Women Against Prostate Cancer will enhance outreach to patients seeking information and support, helping them live healthy and fulfilling lives through our extensive digital and print publications,” said Hennessy.

Hennessy announced the partnership during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, as prostate cancer ranks as the most common non-skin cancer in America. One new case occurs every 2.4 minutes, and a man is 35 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation has raised more than $615 million and provided funding for more than 2,000 research projects at nearly 200 institutions worldwide. Many important discoveries in the fight against prostate cancer since PCF’s launch in 1993 resulted from foundation funding or coordination—including the development of new medications, gene therapy approaches and the development of vaccines that may soon work with the body’s immune system to kill prostate cancer cells.

PCF President and CEO Jonathan W. Simons, M.D., credits this research and resulting treatments with helping reduce the U.S. death rate from prostate cancer by more than 50 percent. “PCF was founded to fund critical research to speed breakthroughs and deliver new treatments to patients,” he said. “But much more work remains, and we must intensify our efforts now. Too many men still die from prostate cancer; too many families still suffer.”

Women Against Prostate Cancer works to unite the voices and provide support for the millions of women and their families affected by prostate cancer. WAPC advocates prostate cancer education, public awareness, screenings, legislation and treatment options. WAPC President and Co-Founder Betty Gallo was married to Congressman Dean A. Gallo, a respected legislator from New Jersey, who lost his life to prostate cancer in 1994 at the age of 58. "Inspired by Betty's story and her determination to help prevent others from suffering the way Dean did, we started WAPC to provide critical information and support for the wives, partners, daughters and loved ones of prostate cancer patients," shared Theresa Morrow, vice president and co-founder of WAPC.
