A Poem About My Wife's Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Author(s):

This poem is a reflection of some of my thoughts and feelings when my wife received a diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer.

"Prayer, perseverance and grace will lead to victory."

Cancer

It comes like the proverbial thief in the night,

Trying to rob you of your dignity and your will to fight.

It tries to shake you and break you and shatter all hope,

While stealing your strength and ability to cope.

It takes away your health and tears at your heart,

And attacks your body and soul at their deepest part.

Despite all its power and relentless assault,

The battle will be joined and in God we will exalt.

Through all of the trials and troubles and tears that we see,

Prayer, perseverance and grace will lead to victory.

When the battle is over and true peace has been won,

We will thank and praise Jesus for all He has done.

My wife had triple negative cancer more than six years ago. This poem reflects some of my thoughts and feelings regarding her battle and our journey together.
