My Training Climb Hike
July 27, 2022
The silence of the trees and flowers while the blue of the sky inspires. All our senses are awake when we spend time in nature. Hiking helps connect us with our roots giving us a feeling of freedom. Hiking is a natural exercise that promotes physical fitness, is economical and convenient, and requires no special equipment. Because hikers can walk as far as they want and there is no physical strain unless they walk among hills or mountains. Many persons hike alone, mainly on weekdays or weekends, but I usually hike with my family because it creates the perfect moment to connect with each other and catch up about what is happening in our lives.
For the patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), connecting with others is important because sometimes they can feel isolated; somedays they look “fine” when it is not exactly how they feel in the inside. These rare, chronic cancers move in silence, but as with any other cancers type; we should all be aware and provide support in any possible way.
I am preparing for the Sole 2 Soul trek, an adventure located in the southwest of the Canadian Rockies, and I heard this is one of the most majestic places to hike in Canada. Wow! I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning from each of them as we challenge ourselves to accomplish the challenge. Raising awareness of MPNs will not end after the hike, it’s actually the beginning of a long journey and I hope you all join me.
