My name is Carmelo Echevarria Colon III (Mel). I am 48 years old and reside in Roanoke, Virginia. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma six years ago. I came across this wonderful fundraising event through a Facebook advertisement and was compelled to give back to the research of this disease and to thank all of those that have been there in support of it, including the medical staff of Duke university Hospital.

I am blessed to be in good medical and physical condition to show that this disease can be dealt with if one keeps a good mental attitude. It feels awesome to be part of this wonderful journey toward helping in finding a cure for multiple myeloma. I am looking forward to the trip, of course; but most importantly making new relationships through this process and journey.
