As I lay here in my tent at 13,900 feet, waiting for the sun to come up, I'm hoping, praying and crossing fingers that we will have no rain or snow today as we continue on our mission to summit Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 feet).

I am reminded with deep humility why we chose Kilimanjaro as the first mountain of our Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma program.

Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world. With its sheer size and towering summit, it truly is an analogy for cancer. It creates its own weather system and can change in a moment’s notice in any of its five ecosystems.

Multiple myeloma is its own weather system, though great advances have been made, it is still not curable. Reacting well for some to certain therapies and then a change in the weather and the patient no longer responding favorably to that treatment, another route on the mountain must be taken...and on and on it goes during this journey up the mountain of multiple myeloma.

There is much hope on the horizon but it will take a village to reach the summit "A CURE FOR THIS DISEASE” ...and all cancers.
