I have been an active participant with the MMRF since 2015 and have been a supporter of the organization since 2005 when my dad was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The initial diagnosis came with a three-year average life expectancy, and over the past 13 years, my dad has thrown that three-year life expectancy out the door thanks in part to the research conducted by the MMRF. Unfortunately, in the fall of 2016, my aunt was also diagnosed with multiple myeloma after battling breast cancer. She currently is receiving treatment from the excellent multiple myeloma doctors championed through the MMRF research efforts.
Multiple myeloma has affected my family on several different fronts, so it has been a natural decision to join the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma team to challenge myself and to help find a cure. I am privileged to have the opportunity to trek to Everest Basecamp alongside myeloma patients, caregivers, nurses and others connected to this disease. This makes my quest so much more than just an individual accomplishment, but rather, the opportunity to truly impact the lives of multiple myeloma patients!
