For the last 5 years, I've made a pledge to compete in something new or challenge myself in a different way every year. This has resulted in a half marathon and a few different triathlons, but this year I've decided to join the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma program in July 2020 and climb Mount Washington to raise funds and awareness for Multiple Myeloma. In February of 2018 after suffering chronic back pain, my dad went into the doctor and was diagnosed with myeloma. The next six months following his diagnosis were extremely challenging for our family as he suffered from 11 different fractures in his spine, underwent radiation, chemo treatments and eventually a stem cell transplant. He has made an incredible recovery, but we are constantly reminded of the presence of his myeloma every day. I came across the Moving Mountains treks when I saw a story on the news about a local myeloma patient who participated in the Patagonia climb in 2019. I had yet to come up with my annual challenge for 2020, and this is a perfect opportunity to do something I've never done before while raising funds and awareness for my dad's disease. The research, passion, and progress that is behind the multiple myeloma community really excites me and gives me hope. I want to do whatever I can to accelerate innovation for cancer therapies and this is just the start of me doing my part.
