My mother passed away from multiple myeloma in February, 2016. She wasn't able to tolerate chemotherapy. So, aside from providing love, support and comfort, there wasn't much more I could do. I felt helpless. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) provided an outlet for me to do something productive for patients with multiple myeloma.

Five months after her passing, I competed in my first Ironman race to raise money for the MMRF. I have had the honor and pleasure to meet multiple myeloma patients and their families and have made some amazing friends. Being part of this organization gives me hope for patients with this disease.

I wish there was more I could have done for my mother. However, in her memory and for the patients with this cancer, I continue to raise awareness of this disease and fundraise for the MMRF to help find a cure.
