My name is Heather and this is my story.
It was September 2019, I remember the day like it was yesterday. My family and I were getting ready to go on a camping trip up north. My sister calls me and says she has multiple myeloma. This news was the most shocking thing I’ve ever heard. I thought this couldn’t be. My sister is the healthiest person I know, and cancer doesn’t run in our family. I was in denial. It took me time to come to terms with an illness that I knew nothing about. All I knew in that moment was that I would be there for her and her family no matter what. When my sister asked me to be a part of this program, of course I was excited and ready for the adventure with her. She is the most important person in my life and would do anything for her! So I do this for her and everyone affected by this illness.
