The DONNA Foundation Returns to In-Person Races with THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K Presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships

The DONNA Foundation kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the announcement of the return to in-person races with THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — September 27, 2021 — The DONNA Foundation kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the announcement of the return to in-person races with THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships on October 2, 2021. Celebrating its 15th year in running with THE PLAYERS Championship, THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K is the first event in the DONNA 2021-2022 Fearless Series. The race will take place at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

“We are proud of our longstanding partnership with the DONNA Foundation and the opportunity it affords us to serve and support Northeast Florida families impacted by breast cancer,” said Jared Rice, Executive Director of THE PLAYERS. “Health and wellness are key charitable pillars of this championship, and we are excited to see runners and walkers participate in THE PLAYERS DONNA 5K, helping the foundation in its race to finish breast cancer.”

The campaign theme for the 2021-2022 Fearless Series is “Together” in celebration of how gathering in community fosters strength and support in overcoming breast cancer and in gratitude for the chance to safely connect in-person as well as virtually. Last year’s series was delivered through a virtual platform and centered around the theme “Everywhere, Together.” The foundation hosted a series of virtual races and events that brought over 4,000 people together from nine countries and all 50 states to empower survivorship everywhere, together.

Over the course of the past year, the foundation served 1,521 breast cancer patients and their families with critical support, delivering $419,000 in financial services. This was a 41% increase in the number of families served over the year prior. The foundation also granted $25,000 to the Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Translational Genomics Program. To date, the foundation has disbursed $3.3 million in funds to this research.

“We are deeply grateful to our partners for their support and to everyone who is able to attend this year’s events, whether it is in-person or virtually,” said Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of the DONNA Foundation. “Together we stand in our mission to end breast cancer.”

Registration for THE DONNA PLAYERS 5K is now open. Advanced registration is required for all participants. Go to http://theplayersdonna5k.com/ to learn more about new race protocols and health and safety guidelines.
