Winner Announced!

Congratulations to Karen Marchman, RN, OCN, CCRP, of Florida Hospital Cancer Institute in Orlando, who was awarded CURE's 2008 Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing at a ceremony in Philadelphia on May 15 before more than 500 of her nurse peers.

As the winner, Marchman received a three-night “Spa Refresher for Two” at Lake Austin Spa Resort in Austin, Texas, recently named the No. 1 destination spa in North America by readers of Condé Nast Traveler. Also present was Sheila S. McThenia, of Oviedo, Florida, who nominated Marchman for the award. For the second year, CURE presented readers with a unique opportunity to honor an oncology nurse who helped them heal. This year’s Extraordinary Healer Award for Oncology Nursing resulted in an outpouring of nominations from patients, survivors, and caregivers, describing the compassion, expertise, and helpfulness received from a special nurse on their oncology team.

The event was held during the Oncology Nursing Society’s 33rd Annual Congress in Philadelphia on May 15, with Honorary Mistress of Ceremonies Loretta Swit, award-winning actress from M*A*S*H*, television’s most honored series.
